Well hello there! It`s been a while. I`m still all over the place and not really sure how to go about this blog thing, so I`m just doing it and hope that I figure out my direction as I go. I thought I would start with what I like to call my sometimes hobby, baking.
This week, I begin the task of baking a wedding cake. About a year and a half ago, my sister got married in Columbia and now that her husband, who is Colombian has finally received his visa to come to Canada, my parents are throwing them a wedding reception\ baby shower (did I mention they have a 9 month old baby?)\ welcome to Canada party. My sister writes about their story on her blog Canadian Married with Latino. Check it out here. So, I have been given the task of baking the cake for this event. My sister wanted something simple and elegant for the party so I am baking a vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream and strawberry filling, and white fondant. I got all the recipes from my favorite cookbook, The Complete Magnolia Bakery Cookbook. It’s written by the brilliant owners of the Magnolia Bakery in New York City. Check out their website here. Belle and Hubby are both sleeping so I decided to try it out myself while I watch one of my new favorite films, Morning Glory. Check out the trailer below. Here`s a pic of my tester cake. It was delish, if I do say so myself. I think I will add more strawberries between the cake layers to offset the sweetness of the butter cream. Stay tuned for the final product!
